Merano Portici

Shopping mile, meeting place and medieval sight in one: The Merano Portici await you with a potpourri of different stores, bars and restaurants! Whether a leisurely stroll with an ice cream in hand or shopping tour in the trendy stores, you will feel very, very comfortable in the middle of this sight in Merano with its ancient walls!
Crossing the Post Bridge with its mosaic-decorated bridge posts and its gilded parapet, you reach the historic Bolzano Gate from the 14th century on a straight path. From here, after a short climb, the Merano Portici begin. The path now gently descends between the archways of the historic buildings to Piazza del Grano, the opposite start of this magnificent shopping street.

On both sides of the 400 meter long Merano Portici, behind the old arcades, are the business premises of the merchants of Merano. Business has been conducted here since the 14th century, and over the centuries the Portici houses have grown so tall that new, higher-placed clocks had to be installed on the steeple of the parish church.

Impressions

Small, manageable boutiques alternate with multi-story specialty stores for sporting goods, modern electronics stores with vendors of high-quality Italian shoe fashion, fresh pasta can be found here as well as trendy sneakers, books, and mountain and outdoor items.
Old-established butcher families offer meat and sausage specialties in their ultra-modern stores, just like young creative designers offer their hand-sewn fashion pieces. And again and again bars and restaurants, which offer the possibility to sit down on comfortable armchairs in the middle of the arbors for a Veneziano or a coffee, but also for a cozy dinner outside!
