Tour description
From here you follow the Merano–Reschen cycle path through Merano, past Lagundo to Rabland, where after about 30 minutes in all the cable car's valley station rises on the left of the cycle path. From here you and your bike are carried up to the tranquil hamlet of Aschbach. That saves 830 metres of climbing, which does your remaining battery capacity a lot of good: there are still about 600 metres of altitude to go from here, on top of the 200 already covered from Merano to Rabland.
From Aschbach you continue on fine, well-maintained forest roads with a moderate gradient to the Naturnser Alm. After the hut there is one more short climb, then the highest point of the tour is reached: the anxious glance at the battery indicator gives way to the magnificent landscape just below the tree line as you continue to the Vigiljoch with its famous little church. At the church there is a final climb of about 50 metres; from here on the battery is welcome to give up: a glorious downhill begins, leading on forest and tarmac roads all the way down to Marling, from where it is only a hop across the Adige bridge back to Untermais railway station.
