Obisell Hut

If you are aiming for the Obisell Alm, you can expect an arduous, often steep and partly exposed ascent of almost 1000 meters in altitude. But you climb a part of the ascent on the Hahnenkamm, a ridge with a view of Merano and so incidentally you also take a summit cross for the perfect selfie (the Pfitscher Köpfl). Once arrived, you can stretch out here, in the middle of this green depression in the middle of nothing at the clear Obisell Lake and, if you're lucky, watch some cows bathing before you let the hut hostess prepare you a hearty Kaiserschmarren!

A hike that makes the heart of every mountain lover beat faster! In the heart of the Texel group you will experience a strenuous climb, lots of views of Merano and its surroundings, a clear mountain lake and a super stop at the highest point of the tour!  The more daring dare to jump into the Obisell lake, before indulging in dumplings and Kaiserschmarren at the alpine hut.

The best place to start the hike to the Obisell Alm is at the Oberöbersthof, which can be reached by car and/or public transport. Depending on the ascent variant, you will cover between 800 and 1000 hm, which are quite challenging, but you will be rewarded with a perfect view of the Merano basin if you choose the variant over the Pfitschkopf on the Hahnenkamm.

Impressions

The variant over the Hahnenkamm leads from there in about 45 minutes slightly uphill to the Obisell Hut, which lies on the lake of the same name. The very brave plunge on hot days to cool off in the crystal clear but cold water. The hut, which is open in summer, offers simple, hearty and tasty dishes, typical alpine fare, which is delivered by the in-house material cable car.

As a descent option, you can choose the more direct path, which leads past the lower, converted Obisell Hut. This leads down through the steep Saltusio valley, a last small counter ascent leads back to the Oberöberst farms at the end.
