This demanding tour starts at Brunnenplatz in Maia Alta (Obermais), where there is also a paid car park if you need one. From here there are about 1600 metres of climbing, so the tour calls for a fully charged battery of at least 630 Wh. You also need a fair amount of fitness, because you should ride with no more than 150–175 % assistance so as not to risk the battery giving up just before the top.
From Brunnenplatz the tour leads through Maia Alta and along the main road to Schenna. From Schenna follow the signs for Schennaberg/Taser and continue on tarmac to about 1000 metres above sea level, above the village of Verdins. In a sharp left-hand bend you (finally) leave the tarmac and turn onto the forest road that winds above the Masul gorge through magnificent woods to just below the Streitweider Alm. Keep left here and follow the signs to Videgg. Even though there are steeper sections again and again from here until after the hamlet of Videgg, resist the temptation to turn up the assistance: from now on you really need every single watt in the battery to reach the day's goal. At Videgg the forest road to the Videgger Assen starts on the right; from here it climbs pleasantly for another 400 metres of altitude until the track runs straight into the magnificent hay meadows of the Videgger Assen, your destination.
The descent follows the ascent route, with just one short counter-climb of about 40 metres where you can use up the last of the battery, if there is any left. From there it is downhill all the way back to the start in Maia Alta.
Refreshments: best at the Videgger Assen hut, where very friendly hosts serve home-made specialities on the sunny terrace. From here you enjoy a breathtaking view of Merano and its surroundings.
