All Christmas markets are ideal for this: The smell of mulled wine and gingerbread, large Christmas baubles hanging from the countless fir trees throughout the Merano region, cozy booths invite you to linger and festively decorated shopping streets make shopping an experience, joyful mood and the relaxed atmosphere make every stroll an experience.
The scenery: The magnificent spa promenade, the time-honored Kurhaus, snow-covered mountains all around, many, many fires everywhere. The smell of mulled wine, cinnamon, cloves and Christmas cookies, but also of hearty delicacies. Choirs sing, music groups play. Add to that a very relaxed mood and the anticipation of the upcoming holidays. In short: If the hectic pace of everyday life has you firmly in its grip, visit the Merano Christmas Market, which is guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit very quickly with its beauty!

It starts at the November 27, 2025 with a festive opening. You can visit the Merano Christmas Market until January 6, 2026. The market will be closed on December 25.

The gastronomic stands are open Sundays to incl. Thursdays from 10:00 to 21:00, Fridays, Saturdays and holidays until 22:30. The merchants and craftsmen keep open Sundays to incl. Thursdays until 19:00, Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, however, until 20:00.

Experience the Christmas magic in Merano

More than 80 booths await you on the magnificent spa promenade, the historic Piazza della Renna and the modern Piazza delle Terme, in the immediate vicinity of the old town of Merano! The murmur of the Passer River accompanies the visitor along the spa promenade, while children have their bright joy with the large ice skating rink near the spa. There are also the popular and famous Alessi balls, larger-than-life (heated!) Christmas tree balls, which are home to a table with cozy seating. Likewise, the living nativity scene and a children's carousel await visitors young and old here. It is only a few steps from anywhere on the market to the old town of Merano with its Christmas decorated arcades!

The gourmet stands offer hot drinks such as mulled wine, hot apple juices (Glühmix), sausages with sauerkraut, goulash soup, dumplings and sweet doughnuts, as well as many typical local specialties such as apple strudel, bacon, cheese, and fresh bread and a wide selection of fresh baked goods. These also keep open longer than the merchants' stalls.

In the booths of merchants and craftsmen you can admire and buy regional and typical handicrafts, candles, Christmas decorations, perfumes, warm clothes of all kinds, such as sweaters, hats, scarves and slippers. It is important to know that only local products and handmade pieces are offered here!

Of course, the city of Merano presents itself from its most beautiful side during the Christmas market! A short walk from the Merano Christmas Market is the historic city center, rich in lights and Christmas colors! A visit to the old town is perfect for Christmas shopping in a truly relaxed atmosphere amidst the many stores in a historic setting. Visit the museums, which are all open and of course the Merano thermal baths, also open daily (!) until 10 p.m!

In the immediate vicinity around Merano you will find other Christmas markets. These are sometimes smaller and quieter, therefore also a little more contemplative. Each of these Christmas markets offers its own unique atmosphere and at least one should be on your list of things to do during your short Advent or Christmas vacation in Merano.

The Lagundo Christmas Market

In the center of Lagundo there is a small but nice Christmas market on the Advent weekends, which can be easily reached with the specially arranged Algund Christkindl Train.
Not far from Merano, directly below the vineyards on the slopes of the Gruppo di Tessa, the garden village of Lagundo is transformed into a Christmas wonderland. This is ensured by the Christmas decorations on Hans Gamper Square in the village center with its small but fine Christmas market, far from the hustle and bustle of the large Merano Christmas market, and yet so close: a direct, fast and free connection to the spa town of Merano is guaranteed by the Algund Christmas train.
A great focus of the Lagundo Christmas Market is families and children, in addition to cozy market stalls away from the traffic, the little ones can warm up on an ice skating rink and visit a petting zoo.

The Algund Christmas Market opens its doors on 28 November 2025 at 5:00 pm with a festive inauguration.

Traditional South Tyrolean specialities such as soups, polenta and dumplings are freshly prepared on a rustic wood-burning stove – free tasting included!

SHUTTLE TRAIN
The free shuttle train connects Algund and Merano regularly during the Christmas market – ideal for visiting both markets without a car. In the late afternoon, the train takes visitors directly from Merano to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, where LUMAGICA shines in its winter splendour.
The train runs every weekend on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From 26 December, the train runs daily.

NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY
On 31 December from 10:00 pm, celebrate the arrival of the new year with the Goaßlschnöller! Enjoy oldies from the 60s to the 90s, Feuerzangenbowle prepared on a wood-burning stove, New Year’s Eve snacks and goulash soup.

CELEBRATION ON 3 JANUARY
The start of the new year is celebrated with the band Selfmade Lemonade on Saturday, 3 January 2026 from 6:00 pm at the church square in Algund – with hot drinks, snacks and plenty of good vibes!

Sterntaler - Christmas market in Lana

Enjoy the wonderful Advent atmosphere in the center of Lana, partly in old backyards with a great accompanying program!
The cozy pedestrian zone of Lana becomes even more cozy during the Advent weekends. The Sterntaler Christmas market attracts again with a pre-Christmas atmosphere, typical, handmade South Tyrolean products and a wide range of offers for the palate. In addition, some historic courtyards and residences in the center of the village open their doors and not only provide insights, but also create space and space for children's programs and exhibitions.

The Forst Brewery Christmas Forest: cozy heated huts, great food, Christmas beer. Over a hundred Christmas trees, fire bowls and a traditional bowling alley. In the best tradition of the Merano Christmas markets, the Forst Brewery has created its own Christmas market and interpreted it as a Christmas forest! Where in the warm months the far around well-known and estimated brewery garden is, arises in the Advent period evenly this magic "Christmas forest"!
Over a hundred Christmas trees decorate the area, fire bowls and torches create a unique atmosphere! This is something you have to experience. While the Forster Christmas beer and special Christmas sausages are served in the open bar area, pleasantly warmed by radiant heaters, you can have a lot of fun at the bowling alley. Of course, the sales booths are also worth a visit. But the highlight are the "huts": small, heated and very cozy wooden houses, which offer space for a table and up to 10 people. Here you can enjoy the cuisine and specialties of the proven Braugarten tenants, the Reiterer family!

Mortiner Sternstunden

Advent in the historic centre of the picturesque village of St. Martin in Passeier Valley. During this event, the village centre transforms into a pedestrian zone with numerous gastronomic and artisan stalls located outdoors, on the streets, as well as in courtyards and cellars.

On the main square there is a large petting zoo (particularly popular with young guests), and atmospheric concerts by brass bands, songs and theatre performances also take place here. St. Martin can be reached from Merano in approximately 20 minutes by car.

Farmers' Advent in Scena

The Schlossadvent Schenna invites visitors to immerse themselves in a special Advent atmosphere – with regional cuisine, traditional crafts and Christmas flair.

Under the motto „Dishes with History“, lovingly designed food stalls offer delicious dishes from times past – authentically prepared and inspired by traditional South Tyrolean cuisine. Traditional craftsmanship comes alive on site: watch, discover and marvel at how people used to work. For the little ones, there is a lovingly designed children’s programme.

The castle is located in the village centre of Schenna. Public transport: bus line 231 from Merano. On foot from Merano via the Mitterplattweg: approx. 4.5 km, walking time approx. 1 hour.
